The US Navy has been joined by a group of esteemed and elite partners in the War of 1812 Commemoration. Together we will be bringing a lot of exciting events, expanded awareness and understanding about this very important time in American History, showing how the events of this "Second War of Independence" still resonate in our daily lives and in our culture.


U.S. Navy

The mission of the Navy is to maintain, train and equip combat-ready Naval forces capable of winning wars, deterring aggression and maintaining freedom of the seas.



United States Fleet Forces Command

United States Fleet Forces Command supports both the Chief of Naval Operations and Combatant Commanders worldwide by providing responsive, relevant, sustainable Naval forces ready-for-tasking.



Naval History & Heritage Command

Whether you visit one of the twelve official U.S. Navy Museums, take advantage of public programs and publications, or seek knowledge through the artifacts, documents, images and artwork available at the NHHC, you will find that this is where the history, legacy and traditions of the United States Navy come alive.



U.S. Coast Guard

The U.S. Coast Guard is one of the five armed forces of the United States and the only military organization within the Department of Homeland Security. Since 1790 the Coast Guard has safeguarded our Nation's maritime interests and environment around the world.



U.S. Marines

The Marine Corps has been America's expeditionary force in readiness since 1775. We are forward deployed to respond swiftly and aggressively in times of crisis. We are soldiers of the sea, providing forces and detachments to naval ships and shore operations. We are global leaders, developing expeditionary doctrine and innovation that set the example, and leading other countries' forces and agencies in multinational military operations. These unique capabilities make us "First to Fight," and our nation's first line of defense.



Navy League

The Navy League of the United States (NLUS) was founded in 1902 with the encouragement of President Theodore Roosevelt. The Navy League has grown into the foremost citizens' organization to serve, support, and stand with all the sea services – U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine.



Operation Sail, Inc

In 1996, Operation Sail received a congressional resolution commending it for its "advancement of brotherhood among nations, its continuing commemoration of the history of the United States, and its nurturing of young cadets through training in seamanship."



International Council of Air Shows, Inc.

ICAS was founded in 1968 as a trade and professional association by industry professionals to protect and promote their interests in the growing North American air show marketplace.



Naval Historical Foundation

Since 1926 the Naval Historical Foundation's principal purpose has been to educate Americans about the history and importance of American sea power, and the contribution and sacrifices United States Navy sailors have made while protecting our freedom and preserving democracy in peace and war.



The Royal Navy

As an Island nation, our prosperity and security is totally dependent on our ability to access the sea. The Canadian Navy Fleet

The Canadian Navy fleet, roughly balanced between the Atlantic (Halifax, N.S.) and Pacific (Esquimalt, B.C.) coasts, has 33 destroyers, frigates, replenishment ships submarines and maritime coastal defence vessels, plus many more auxiliary and support vessels.

The Mission of the Institute is to provide an independent forum for those who dare to read, think, speak, and write in order to advance the professional, literary, and scientific understanding of sea power and other issues critical to national defense.



The National Maritime Historical Society

The National Maritime Historical Society's mission is to preserve and perpetuate the maritime history of the United States and we invite all Americans to share in the challenging heritage of seafaring.



The Smithsonian National Museum of American History

The Smithsonian National Museum of American History dedicates its collections and scholarship to inspiring a broader understanding of our nation and its many peoples. We create opportunities for learning, stimulate imaginations, and present challenging ideas about our country's past.

The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery

The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery is dedicated to the exhibition and study of portraits of people who have made significant contribution to American history and culture. Through the visual arts, performing arts and new media, the Portrait Gallery portrays poets and presidents, visionaries and villains, actors and activists whose lives tell the American story.



United States Navy Memorial

The Navy Memorial includes both a commemorative public plaza and a Naval Heritage Center. The plaza is a round ceremonial amphitheater paved in granite to form a 100-foot diameter of the world. Surrounding the deck of the plaza are fountains, pools, flagpole masts, and sculptural panels depicting historic achievements of the sea services. A symbolic statue of a Lone Sailor stands watch near the edge of the plaza.



National Park Service

Since 1916, the American people have entrusted the National Park Service with the care of their national parks. With the help of volunteers and park partners, we are proud to safeguard these nearly 400 places and to share their stories with more than 275 million visitors every year. But our work doesn't stop there.

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society

Founded in 1904, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is a private non-profit charitable organization. It is sponsored by the Department of the Navy and operates nearly 250 offices ashore and afloat at Navy and Marine Corps bases throughout the world.

The American Society of Marine Artists

The American Society of Marine Artists was founded in 1978 by a small group of the country's leading maritime artists. The organization’s mission is to recognize, encourage and promote marine art and maritime history; to encourage cooperation and free interchange among artists, art teachers, art students, craftsmen, publishers and others with interests related to marine art and the history of marine art; to provide a registry for artists, to hold exhibitions, and to promote the study and improvement of marine art. ASMA is dedicated to fulfilling an informational and educational role. ASMA provides mutual support for marine artists, enhances public awareness of the genre, and explores and records the history of American marine art, as well as encouraging the work of newcomers.

Maryland War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission

The Maryland War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission is planning a multi-year cultural tourism and educational initiative to commemorate Maryland's unique contributions to the defense and heritage of the nation including the pivotal clash that ensured American victory, an iconic flag, and the national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner. Star-Spangled 200, Inc. is the non-profit partner of the Maryland War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission. Together these organizations are working to commemorate the national bicentennial in Maryland, including programming, events, community investment, and educational outreach. Events kick off with Star-Spangled Sailabration, June 13-19, 2012.

Virginia Bicentennial of the American War of 1812 Commission

The Virginia Bicentennial of the American War of 1812 Commission is planning commemorative events, promoting historical literacy & understanding of the War of 1812, and supporting organizations state-wide who are planning activites commemorating the Bicentennial of the War of 1812.
